What can we help you with?
1. Hearing & hearing damage
1.1 At what volume are you at risk of hearing damage?
If you are often in rooms or situations with music or noise above 80 dB(A) you are at risk of hearing damage.
Noise above 80 dB can already be harmful if you spend more than 8 hours in it. That's the noise from a busy road, for example. With every 3 dB increase in noise, the time you can spend in it halves without risk of hearing damage. A chainsaw or jackhammer quickly sits around 103 dB. That means that without hearing protection, you have a chance of permanent hearing damage after only a few minutes.
1.2 Can you fix hearing damage?
No, once acquired hearing damage cannot be remedied, even with a hearing aid. A hearing aid amplifies the sound you cannot hear or hear poorly without it, but it never brings back your full hearing. Vibrating hairs cannot grow or repair on their own, and medical science is not yet able to cure hearing damage.
1.3 Are high tones more damaging to your hearing than low tones?
The pitch has little or no influence on whether you suffer hearing damage. High tones produce just as much damage as low tones at equal loudness. High notes can feel more painful, though.
2. Earplugs
2.7 How is the strength of the filter determined?
The strength of the filter is determined from a noise measurement. If you have already had measurements taken, we can recommend the right filter based on those results. Of course, we can also perform our own sound measurement on site.
2.2 Otoplastics made of acrylic or silicone. What is the difference?
With most custom-made hearing protectors, you can choose between acrylic and silicone material.
Hard otoplastics (acrylic)
Acrylic is hard material and therefore easy to clean, easy to insert into the ear and comfortable to wear in warm conditions. The hard custom earplugs are recommended for use on the job and specifically in the food industry and in companies where oil products are handled. Due to the smooth surface, dirt and bacteria hardly adhere.
Advantages of acrylic hearing protectors: longer life, more hygienic and easier to clean and feels cooler when working in the heat.
Soft otoplastics (silicone)
Silicone is soft and specially made to minimize the occlusion effect; the effect that closing off the ear canal makes one's own voice sound dull. For wearers of safety helmets, silicone material is more comfortable and safer. Upon impact, the material yields instead of transmitting the impact (to the ear).
Advantage of silicone hearing protectors: less time to get used to the earplugs, closes well when talking and moving a lot, safer and more comfortable under a helmet.
2.1 What is the difference between universal and custom-made earplugs?
With hearing protection, you can choose from universal (Uni-Fit) or custom-made (Custom-Fit) earplugs, also called otoplastics. Which ones are best for you depends mainly on how often you use them.
The universal earplugs are suitable if you need occasional hearing protection and can be used more than 100 times. They are made of skin-friendly material and come with a convenient storage case.
Custom-made hearing protectors (Custom-Fit) are suitable if you need hearing protection often or for longer periods of time. The Custom-Fit earplugs are comfortable due to the perfect fit, offer the most optimal protection and many options.
2.5 Are Pluggerz hearing protectors certified?
With the EU Declaration of Conformity, Comfoor B.V. declares that the Pluggerz hearing protectors meet the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2016/425 for personal protective equipment. This means that our products have been designed, manufactured and tested in accordance with the applicable European safety and quality standards.
2.3 What is the difference between a standard filter and a premium filter in an earplug?
Pluggerz standard filters attenuate sound somewhat more in the high frequencies by 22 to 33 dB, depending on the material of the hearing protector and the usage situation.
Pluggerz Premium filters are designed for the best sound quality. These so-called flat filters attenuate almost equally at all frequencies, keeping the sound as true to nature as possible. As a result, both speech and ambient sound remain clearly audible.
2.6 What is the service life of a Pluggerz hearing protector?
Normally, otoplastics last 4 to 5 years. Because they are tailored precisely to your ear canal, they remain effective and comfortable for a long time.
However, the ear canal changes over time. After more than 4 to 5 years, the shape changes such that the risk of leakage increases.
Our Secure and Total Service concepts include an annual seal check, so you can be sure of proper sealing.
2.4 Why can't I order a handle with Premium acrylic hearing protector?
This is because there is not enough space on the hearing protection to fit a handle. Still want a handle? Then choose the silicone variety.
3. Sound measurement
3.1 What types of sound measurements can Pluggerz perform?
The difference is mainly in accuracy, purpose and how it is measured:
Daily dose measurement = complete and accurate (entire working day, per person)
Indicative measurement = quick and global (snapshot, location, machine)
Day dosimeter
Measures total noise exposure over a working day (usually 8 hours).
Is performed with a personal dosimeter that a person wears on the shoulder all day. Gives a reliable and official result (useful for legislation and RI&E). Shows whether someone is taking in too much noise over the entire day.
Indicative noise measurement
Is a quick measurement at a place or time. Is done with a sound meter (not worn all day). Gives an overall impression of the noise level. Less accurate, mainly intended to signal if there may be a problem.
4. Purchasing and delivery process
4.1 How does the process work?
Contact: You contact us. We review the specific requirements and number of carriers
Quotation: Based on this conversation, you will receive an appropriate quote.
Scheduling: Upon agreement, we will schedule a time for on-site fitting in consultation.
On-site fitting: Depending on requirements and company size, our Service Employee will visit your company or you can use a voucher to visit one of our 700 dealers in the Netherlands and Belgium. Pluggerz thus has the largest dealer network which gives flexibility. Our Service Employee can fit approximately 10 people per hour.
Production with smart 3D technology: The ear impressions are processed into hearing protectors in our laboratory using smart 3D technology.
Delivery of hearing protection with seal test: After about 10 working days of production time, the otoplastics will be sent to you. Our Service Employee will visit you on site or vouchers will be provided for a seal test. The vouchers will be sent anyway. In the process, we provide instructions and perform a seal test to verify that the otoplastics seal 100%. This is to ensure safety.
Annual on-site inspection: Our Secure and Total Service concepts include an annual seal check, so you can be sure of proper sealing. With the Total service concept, as long as the agreement runs, there is free replacement in case of rejection.
4.2 From how many people will you visit on location?
We can deploy both vouchers where you can visit a Pluggerz dealer, or have one of our Service Employees visit you on location. Starting from 5 carriers, we come by on location. In addition, with more than 700 dealers in the Netherlands and Belgium, Pluggerz has a large network which offers flexibility. The choice (voucher or Service Employee on site) depends on the requirements and company size. We would be happy to coordinate this jointly with you.
4.4 Do the carriers have to be present at delivery on site?
The custom-made earplugs, will be shipped to you after production. Sealing control can be done through vouchers or through an on-site Service Employee, depending on requirements and company size. With this voucher you can visit one of the 700 dealers in the Netherlands and Belgium.
During delivery, instructions are given and the otoplastics are tested for sealing. Should the otoplastics not seal 100%, new ear impressions can be taken during delivery. The wearer can also provide feedback regarding the comfort of the custom-made hearing protector. Information on how to put on and take off otoplastics and maintenance is also shared. Thus, the presence of the carriers is more than desirable during an on-site delivery. Suppose a wearer is (unexpectedly) absent anyway, we leave the otoplastics behind. These can then be tested for sealing during another appointment or by voucher.
4.3 What if one (or more) employee(s) cannot be present during the application meeting?
When not all carriers were present, we agree on one of the following solutions. It is possible to schedule a follow-up visit on site with one of our Service Employees or the open measurements are filled with vouchers so that employees can visit one of our 700 dealers.
4.5 What is the delivery time?
Normally we maintain about 10 working days production time. Should there be other needs, it is negotiable.
4.6 Can I have hearing protection fitted if I suffer from earwax?
Almost everyone has earwax in his or her ear. If it's not too much, we can just fit otoplastics. Do you feel like you have a lot of wax in your ear or even a blocked ear? If so, it is advisable to first see a doctor to have your ears cleaned. Then wait at least 24 hours before taking a docking measurement.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Can I clean my custom hearing protection?
Pluggerz offers a special cleaning kit for hygienically cleaning your (custom-made) earplugs. This set includes a foam for weekly use and tablets for monthly use.
6. Warranty
6.1 What are the guarantees?
Depending on the service concept chosen, different benefits and forms of guarantee apply.
7. Portal
7.4 How can I apply for a voucher?
Through the portal, you can easily request a fitting voucher for new carriers. You can do this by adding the bearer under the heading 'employees'. Then go to the heading 'request voucher' and you will see the name you just added in the list. Select the name, add a PO number if necessary, and select continue and confirm. The voucher will be sent to the specified email address within minutes.
7.2 How can you modify or add employees in the portal?
Through the portal, you can keep your own employee list up-to-date. The 'Employees' heading allows you to add new employees and report out of service yourself.
7.1 How do I create login credentials in the portal?
Our website allows you to create login credentials for an online portal when you are an industry customer. You do this by going to www.www.pluggerz.com, and clicking on "My Pluggerz for Business" at the bottom of the page. This is how you can log in and change your password.
7.3 How can I confirm the employee list?
When you have a Secure or Total contract with us, the otoplastics of all wearers are checked annually. This usually happens around the same time each year. 90 days before it is due, an email is sent asking you to check the employee list, adjust where necessary and confirm. Once the list is confirmed, you will receive vouchers or a date proposal to perform the on-site checkup.
