How does hearing damage occur in workers?

When employees are exposed to harmful noise while working, the sensitive cilia in the inner ear become overloaded and damaged. This process results in faulty signals to the brain, manifesting as the familiar beep, hiss or hum (tinnitus).

The real problem? Broken cilia don’t heal. That permanent damage causes employees to lose concentration and stress, which ultimately leads to absenteeism. While it’s simple to prevent with the right protection.

After 8 hours of exposure to 80dB, a worker is at risk of hearing damage. With every 3dB increase in noise, the time a worker can spend in it halves without risk of hearing damage. From 100dB, an employee is at immediate risk of hearing damage. The cilia in the inner ear are then damaged. Often this is not noticed immediately. By the time the damage is noticed, it is already too late to do anything about it.

The table below gives an idea of how quickly this can happen. With Pluggerz custom hearing protection, employees are always optimally protected against hearing damage.
